Theatre play
A theatrical approach, which highlights the greatness of the ancient tragedy,
determines the position of women in the works of the tragic poets. Mythical women converse with each other, become central tragic figures, and determine the origins of the cultural culture, delivering life lessons.
The ancient heroines protagonists Medea, Electra, Antigone, Hecube, Iphigenia, & Alcestis are female archetypes that stand as bright beacons in the imaginary course of humanity for self-knowledge, freedom and independence.
MEDEA – Enraged by betrayal and consumed by passion, she seeks revenge, leading to total destruction.
ELECTRA – A symbol throughout the ages of love for the father and jealousy towards the mother. Electra syndrome.
ANTIGONE – The symbol of resistance, freedom, and dignity. She pays with her life for what she considers just.
HECUBA – The tragic mother who loses her children. The fate of the defeated. Pain and revenge.
IPHIGENIA – A noble woman-patriot who sacrifices herself for her ideals.
ALCESTIS – Provides the model of female dedication to family.
The protagonists are surrounded by a chorus that will converse and direct the action. The members of the chorus will play ancient musical instruments.
Monologues and choruses will form a compact action with three stages:
Beginning, middle and end.
The female figures in the works of the tragic poets display emotions such as envy, passion and the weaknesses that humanity is swayed by.
Women sacrifice themselves to shed light on our consciousness so that the cycle of life that began with arrogance and selfishness can be ended.
A person from hubris and brokenness can be led to peace and hope.
Woman stands against woman and wins life with Purification.
Exhibition “Ancient Greek Mask in Comedy & Tragedy”
As part of the presentation of the theatrical performance, an interactive exhibition, with a guided tour, by the artist YiannisZimianitis entitled "Ancient Greek mask in comedy & tragedy " dedicated to the history of the theatrical mask comes to life.
The roots of the mask go back to the mysterious rituals. The beginnings of the theatrical life of the mask can be traced to the cult events in honor of the god Dionysos and thus it is explained that the mask is a key element of the so-called ritual theater.
The Artist, maker of ancient masks, YiannisZimianitis, has been creating faces of ancient plays for 30 years. He has made over 1200 original masks and has developed the speech technique.
