Με πρωτοκλασάτους πρωταγωνιστές τους Λεά Σεϊντού και Λουί Γκαρέλ, η Ενιέντι αφηγείται μια τραγική ρομαντική ιστορία στο Παρίσι του 20ου αιώνα. Τότε, ένας ναυτικός βάζει στοίχημα να παντρευτεί την πρώτη γυναίκα που θα δει να διαβαίνει την πόρτα. Ευτυχώς γι’ αυτόν, η γυναίκα για την οποία κερδίζει το στοίχημα είναι η εκθαμβωτική Λίζι. Δυστυχώς, όμως, ένας γάμος που ξεκινά σαν χαριτωμένο αστείο σύντομα μετατρέπεται σε μια συναισθηματικά επώδυνη καταβύθιση στη ζήλεια.
