Release Athens 2024 welcomes Massive Attack, on Wednesday, July 17th, at Water Plaza (Plateia Nerou)! One of the greatest bands of the last decades returns to Greece, after many years, with their most impressive show to date. Alongside them, Beak>, Portishead’s Geoff Barrow band, and Mount Kimbie, the influential group from London.
Formed in Bristol, England, in 1988 as members of the DJ collective The Wild Bunch, Massive Attack have always been ahead of their time. With just 5 studio albums, they changed the sonic landscape of modern music forever. Challenging every known pop form and cliché, they gave birth to trip hop, a sound that defies categorization. A dark and soulful combination of electronic sounds, hip-hop, samples, influences from dub / reggae / soul, even post-punk, which captivated the world scene in the early 90s and gave us some of the greatest musical creations of the last 30 years.
Their classic debut “Blue Lines” (1991) immediately established them. The beautiful "Protection" (1994) confirmed their status and their masterpiece "Mezzanine" (1998) remains an undisputed landmark. The haunting "100th Window" (2003) and the charming "Heligoland" (2010) complete their discography to date, which also includes many remixes and EPs (with the amazing "Ritual Spirit" marking an impressive comeback in 2016), as well as many collaborations with artists such as Liz Fraser, Tracey Thorn, David Bowie, Madonna, Tricky, Damon Albarn, Horace Andy, Hope Sandoval, Young Fathers, and many more.
Massive Attack asked the questions and never gave easy answers. They touched the hearts of millions of people without compromise. Mysterious and inaccessible, yet with a musical statement of unique intensity and beauty, they remain one of the most important and respected bands in the world.
3D, Daddy G and the wonderful voices that accompany them on their iconic tracks - from “Unfinished Sympathy” to “Safe From Harm” and from “Teardrop” to “Angel” - are the ingredients that make their live shows unique! Their high quality visuals are filled with messages designed to disturb and awaken, and their sound is sometimes sweet and soothing, sometimes huge and deafening.

Beak> currently consists of Geoff Barrow from Portishead, Will Young, Robert Plant's bassist, and Billy Fuller aka Moon Gangs. With influences ranging from Krautrock to experimental / electronic music, Beak> released their self-titled debut album in 2009, which was notable for its improvisational nature.
Since then, they have recorded two more studio albums, scored the soundtrack for Tom Geen's psychological drama “Couple In A Hole” and released a number of great singles including “Sex Music”, “The Meader” and most recently “Kosmik Musik”, the music accompaniment to Joe Currie and Ben Wheatley's sci-fi graphic novel.
To this day, they have played hundreds of shows across Europe and America, earning a well-deserved following and a reputation as a great live band who bring something completely different to every show.

Formed in London in 2008 by Dominic Maker and Kai Campos, Mount Kimbie have spent the last fifteen years crafting a vast catalogue of the most seminal and influential music to emerge from the capital's vibrant music scene.

With long term collaborators, Andrea Balency-Béarn and Marc Pell, now full-time members of the group, Mount Kimbie come to Plateia Nerou to present their adventurous music and, together with Massive Attack and Beak>, give us one the most intriguing nights of the summer.
