The Earth (Gis) Theatre
The Earth (Gis) Theatre was built in 1998, in a former quarry in the Triandria area, to plans by the architect Manos Perrakis. It is designed in accordance with models from the classical tradition, with “visual corrections” between the tiers of seats and respect for the forest landscape.
The dressing rooms, the theatre’s Utility and Historical Wardrobe, and additional storage spaces used by its Props department are all housed beneath the cavea. Every summer, as the venue of the Forest Festival, the main cultural event of the Thessaloniki summer, the Earth Theatre becomes a meeting place for the people of Thessaloniki and visitors who have come to enjoy a rich programme of events including theatre, music and dance.
