21:00 One-Sided - Impro Solo Show by Tim Hearn
Sure there are two sides to every story, but do you really need to hear both? In this one man show Tim creates narrative stories using one character's point of view, for each scene, while the audience imagines all of the other people in the world. This format has been performed at festivals throughout North Carolina and has left audiences amazed and entertained by the improv tricks and techniques used throughout the performance. Tim focuses on engaging the audience with believable characters and stories while pulling them into the reality of play using their own imagination and experiences as fodder.

The shows start with a trip down memory lane as we delve into the lives of two former roommates who are packing up their apartment. As they separate the objects from the last box, they reminisce on the memories that each item holds. We want you to be a part of the journey too. Bring items from your own lives and we'll use them as props to bring moments from our characters' lives to the forefront. “Memories” is a form that is based in realism and has a strong connection to the audience, grounded in the nostalgia of our shared memories.

14:00 - 17:00 “Ego vs. Play and The Exploration of Character” - 3H - by Tim Hearn (BEGGINERS/INTERMEDIATE)
This workshop creates an interactive experience where improvisers search for characters from the outside world as well as understanding the innate characters within. I’ll use theater games, acting exercises, and the Meisner technique to engage the students in character play that is grounded in process and not product.
This workshop uses three approaches to learning about character. First we take a deep dive into the character within by slowing down and getting to know our personal play styles as well as idiosyncrasies. Second we will use a Murder Mystery experience to create wild characters that are grounded in the experiential aspect of improv instead of performance based. Lastly, we will combine all of the elements of the murder mystery and character exploration to create grounded improv that is playful for the improvisers but relatable and engaging for the audience.
20:30 Two - Sided Duo Impro Show for a performer and a musician by Maro Lesioti and Tim Hearn
Tim’s one man show (One-Sided) has been performed with an accompanying piano (Two-Sided) to much success and brings a different improvised energy between musician and improviser. Maro is a talented pianist who would improvise musically alongside Tim. It would be a lovely juxtaposition to see the differences in approach of each musician, how different musicians bring new things to the table and what kind of product Tim and Maro will bring after one week of working together and rehearsing on the project.

10:00 - 17:00 “Filtaton” - 6H - by Maro Lesioti (INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED)
As Aristotle once noted, theater is humanity celebrating the process of learning. Learning is a core element of life, and so theater provides us with an avenue to explore and learn about the world around us.
On stage, our body is our main tool, and it is essential not only to nourish it, but also train it in various ways. Through physical exercises and techniques, we can develop our body and voice to effectively communicate with the audience, universal values such as justice, the oppression of peoples by the authorities etc. Over those two days, we will delve into the technique of Ancient Greek Theater. We will learn to embody the characters we portray and to connect with our audience on a deeper level. In the end, we will put all of our newfound knowledge and skills to the test by creating a show based on Aristotle's idea of "filtaton”.
